European bourses had a strong morning, helped by a surge from Airbus maker EADS and news of strong export figures from China.
The CAC 40 in Paris closed 66 higher at 3,446, while the Dax in Frankfurt finished 116 points better at 5,984.
China’s exports in May were reportedly 50% higher than a year earlier.
EADS was the stand-out performer after Emirates confirmed it will spend $11.5bn on 32 new double-decker superjumbos as part of a push for global market share in the transatlantic market.
The Airbus order, the largest ever for commercial aircraft, will boost the airline's Airbus fleet to 90.
EADS' chief executive Louis Gallois told a news conference the recent industrial problems on the Airbus A380 were under control and that the company had enough cash for "reasonable" sized acquisitions.
Societe Generale is another good performer despite the attention from the trial of former trader Jerome Kerviel.
Elsewhere, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel urged European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso to implement a ban on so-called naked short sales and credit-default swaps on sovereign bonds.
STMicroelectronics rose after it attracted a “buy” rating from broker Jefferies Group.Inditex is also going well as first-quarter profit rose 64% to €301m.
