7 Stocks To Know For Wednesday: Verizon, Google, Research In Motion, eBay, AstraZeneca, Ford, AT&T


  • The largest U.S. mobile-phone carrier
     Verizon (VZ: 28.32 -0.30 -1.05%) will start selling Apple (AAPL: 257.0999 +0.9299 +0.36%) iPhone to customers in January next year. Since the iPhone was introduced in 2007, AT&T (T: 24.33 -0.13 -0.53%) has been the exclusive retailer for the device in America. Verizon fell 0.5% and AT&T fell more than 0.7%.
  • Google (GOOG: 453.79 -0.47 -0.10%) submitted yesterday a revised license application in China before today’s deadline. In March Google closed its China search engine and started to redirect users to the Hong Kong site.
  • Research In Motion (RIMM: 50.20 +0.45 +0.90%) and eBay (EBAY: 19.96+0.27 +1.37%) today announced in a joint statement that the free eBay Application for BlackBerry smartphones is now available on BlackBerry App World in six more countries including Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK. RIM rose more than 1% and Ebay gained nearly 2% in Wednesday morning trading.
  • AstraZeneca (AZN: 47.69 -1.05 -2.15%) was upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Bank of America (BAC: 14.60 +0.03 +0.21%), citing the successful patent of Crestor. The price target was raised to $55.50 from $51.
  • Ford (F: 10.415 +0.535 +5.41%) said today it will pay $3.8 billion in cash to the UAW trust, and will also pay $255 million in deferred dividend payments to the union health care fund. CEO Alan Mulally said today, “Our One Ford plan to profitably grow our business is working, and we are increasingly confident about our future.” Ford shares are up more than 5.4% to $10.42.
