Boeing Buys Software-maker Narus (BUY)

Advancing on its strategy to offer world-class, scalable, state-of-the-art cybersecurity solutions, Boeing Company (BA) agreed to acquire Narus – a privately held software-maker providing services to governments across the world for preventing cyber attacks. The acquisition is expected to close during the third quarter of 2010.
 
This acquisition marks the next step in the company’s strategy to develop integrated solutions for better network visibility, threat detection and cybersecurity. The acquisition is a result of the company’s successful partnership over the years.
 
Narus, which will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Boeing, will operate within Boeing’s Network & Space Systems business supporting cyber activities. Additionally, Boeing intends to apply Narus’ network-centric technology to its smart grid energy work, the secure networking of Boeing’s ground, air and space products and the defense of the Boeing network.
 
Sunnyvale, California-based Narus, is a leading provider of real-time network traffic and analytics software used to protect against cyber attacks and persistent threats aimed at large Internet Protocol networks. The company employs roughly 150 employees globally.
 
Headquartered in St. Louis, Boeing Defense, Space & Security, a unit of Boeing Company, is one of the world’s largest defense, space and security businesses specializing in innovative and capabilities-driven customer solutions and the world’s largest and most versatile manufacturer of military aircraft. The company employs 68,000 employees worldwide.
