**Last Week's Market Recap (July 5 to 9)**
Early in the week, there were few market participants while the United States
enjoyed a 3-day weekend. The market continued making gains, with buying sentiment
seen around undervalued issues. Later on, investors reacted positively to large
gains in the US following a rally in the Shanghai securities market and improved
performance of financial institutions. This continued to push the market higher.
Doubts of the ruling party’s administration after the results of the upper house
elections on Sunday strengthened apprehension amongst investors as mining and
bank stocks were sold on negative reactions to large-scale capital raisings.
However, a lull in the yen’s strength motivated purchasing of electrical
appliance and machinery stocks, leading to fluctuation in the market.
TOPIX rose by 30.23 points (3.64%) from the previous week to close at 861.21.
Average daily trading volume rose by 8 million shares to 1.654 billion shares,
and average daily trading value fell by 22.3 billion JPY to 1.1303 trillion JPY.
