IART Unveils Dural Regeneration (BUY)

Integra LifeSciences Holdings Corportion (IART: 36.58 -0.55 -1.48%) recently launched the DuraGen Plus Dural Regeneration Matrix - Spinal Matrix. It is the next generation absorbable dural substitute as well as sutureless onlay graft for the repair of dura mater.
Dura mater is the tough, fibrous membrane forming the outermost of the three coverings of the brain and spinal cord. DuraGen Plus Dural Regeneration Matrix - Spinal Matrix meets all the requirements of an onlay collagen and delivers superior results.
Integra developed its first onlay collagen graft for dural repair in 1999. Since then, Integra markets the graft materials for sutureless closure of dural defects in the US. Through the Duragen Plus, which employs innovative technologies, the company intends to help the surgeons gain confidence in patient’s treatment as well as save the time required for an operation.
Integra’s products are used, mainly in orthopedics, neurosurgery and general surgery. Its neurosciences product group includes, among other things, dural grafts for the repair of the dura mater, ultrasonic surgery systems for tissue ablation, cranial stabilization and brain retraction systems. NeuroSciences revenue increased 8.4% year-over-year to $64.8 million in the first quarter 2010.
Integra expects spending on research and development to be between 6% and 7% of the total revenue for the fiscal year 2010, the expenses being mostly concentrated on product development efforts for the spine, neurosurgery and extremity reconstruction product lines. The company is optimistic about the opportunities existing in these markets, which would help it expand the product portfolio and give a boost to the revenue further.
Integra, a world leader in regenerative medicine, is dedicated towards improving the quality of life of patients through development, manufacturing, and marketing of innovative and cost-effective surgical implants and medical instruments.
