First-Hour Stock Movers (ARNA, BJ, STR, AMED)

Arena Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARNAshares gained 10.09% to $3.38 after the company announced an agreement possibly worth more than $1.3 billion with Japan’s Eisai Inc. to market an obesity drug. Arena will receive an upfront payment of $50 million from Eisai and up to another $90 million in milestone payments for U.S. approval and delivery of the product for sale, the company said.
So far this year, the stock fell more than 2%. Over the past 52 week of trading sessions, the stock has been trading in the range of $2.70-$5.93.
BJ’s Wholesale Club, Inc. (NYSE:BJ) soared 16.21% to $43.01. Today, the stock made its new 52-week high of $43.83. The stock opened the day`s trade at $38.10 and gained momentum in the first hour of trade. The volumes are quite high today with 3.75 million shares already traded as compared to its daily average volume of 1.62 million shares.
Questar Corporation (NYSE:STR) jumped 0.59% to $15.41. The company said today that it has completed the spin-off of QEP Resources, Inc. One share of QEP common stock was distributed for every share of Questar common stock held as of the record date of June 18, 2010, including a pro-rata distribution of fractional shares.
The stock today made its 52-week high of $15.88 and also its new 52-week low of $15.30. The stock opened today at $15.31.
Amedisys, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMED) plunged 17.05% to $36.48 after the home health-care provider announced that it is now under formal investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company said the agency has subpoenaed documents relating to an investigation being conducted by the Senate Finance Committee. So far the market capitalization of the stock stands at $1.04 billion.
